As to "MSA" standards, doesn't it make sense to wear good quality clothing and have your kart in good order? Remember, the BS6658 helmet standard expires in December of this year, but it was introduced in 1985 and the latest helmets offer better protection. Any kart race suit (post 1997 homologation) is acceptable, gloves (without holes) and boots offering ankle protection are all that is required. Enclosed chain guards yes, a secondary brake cable and general prep as per Blue Book.
