Possibly over reving the engine. The rockers are prone to cracking if over stressed (as are collets.

If this is the case all you have to do is run with less teeth until you get a maximum of 5,800 revs.

repair shouldn't be that expensive but make sure you find all the broken bits and I would advise an oil change.
