Why don't you give Roger or Paul a call at RPM and ask them (speak to others also for a balanced view). In my view you are doing everything in the right order - good chassis, standard engine with a decent amount of time on it. If you have this engine rebuilt it will be as good as any raced tuned one that you would buy off the shelf (perhaps even better) and the overall cost to you will be the original engine cost plus the rebuild (which in all probablity will be around the same as a race tuned one).

Also at 8 your lad will still have a lot to learn to get the best out for his driving and chassis. Spend time and cash on testing and tyres and you will reap the rewards.

Those that claim to have the biggest engine in the paddock tend to have the biggest mouth (and smallest privates - their wifes will testify and tend to be ugly!!). Yes you will need the best of everything if you compete at Super 1 level and if that is your thought then you will need more than one engine but in the meantime call Roger. Better still take your engine and see what it reads on a dyno and get a view of what they expect you will be able to achieve from a rebuild. You already have the usual enhancers with the exhaust and the springs (2 & 3 are the usual settings) so the amount you might see as a gain will have reduced already from a standard motor.

The problem with asking views on here is you can have 10 different people with 11 different views.
