If you are just starting out I would get a new boxed engine - Ł200+Vat. They are quite good out of the box and you won't be giving that much away.

As a novice there will always be more to be found in your driver learning how to drive and you setting up the chassis - engines only provide the last couple of tenths.

Once you are getting a bit closer to the pace then send your engine to RPM to be race tuned. Roger started live as a race car engine man and the vast majority of winning drivers choose RPM over anyone else.
