IMO The reason for Buy Back is not just cost but engine equalisation. If engine are not or not seen to be equal everyone suffers. The kids at the front never get the full credit for their achievements because the suspicion is they have better engines.

The kids and often the parents at the back can become demotivated and or obssessed with 'engine' because they don't 'believe' they can get any faster without a 'good' one.

It doesn't matter how much a parent spends, the best and only real cure for this is to take the engine from the guy at the front and put it on the one at the back, the one at the back will still be slow and the one at the front will get the credit he deserves by still being quick.

This principle works, I have done it several times when the pressure has got too great. i.e. swapped engines with a backmarker.

What then happens is the parent and child at the back, instead of leaving karting in a huff at the front runners (cheating or cheque books), have another look at the driving and the chassis and generally get faster.

Buy Back can do this for a whole class.

As for cost of chassis, are many Cadet chassis bent beyond repair? My feedback is they are not but if so, sounds like that's a separate problem that needs sorting.
