I believe that the carb is optional and the exhaust is optional.
If you want to use the evo power valve then you have to use the complete electronics package, coil loom ecu and battery box mounted on left hand side of chassis beside the seat.
My experience is that the PV is much more consistent but it has been known to stick in the closed position.
I havn't tried the old carb with evo ignition so cant comment. What I do know is that there is less skill required as you can floor the throttle and the engine will respond almost instantly unlike the old carb which had to be treated much more gently.
As to times, certainly no slower and for me personally as a person who struggles to get near 177 its made it easier for me to keep up out of the slower corners where I am not waiting on the carb / engine picking up.
