Perhaps the problem is which is the quicker, X30 or Formula Blue?

The answer is that in the right hands,on the right tracks Formula Blue engines have regularly been faster in mixed practice than Rotaxes and have been faster than X30's.

One main difference is that Formula Blue have a restrictor which puts everyone on the grid on an equal footing, regardless of their weight, be they 40kg or 100kg.

A second difference is the way the power is put down, the Blues tend to catch Rotaxes round teh corner, being more drivable but the Rotax out drags Blues when the power valve cuts in.

In the mixed grids of Junior Blue / Junior Rotax at Dunkeswell at the end of the season, Jake Calvert was making determined efforts to drive all the way through the Rotax grid, even though he started a couple of hundred metres behind them at the start. But that is a national champion driver demonstrating driver ability against normal club drivers, regardless of the engine.
