I occasionally run the TKM Maxxis slicks in reverse rotation to even up tyre wear. No improvement in performance, but doesn't seem to cause any problems either. If I have time I change the rotation on the rims so that I can swap left to right while preserving the correct rotation direction.

As I understand it, the "correct rotation" is the one in which the chances of delamination of the cap plies is minimised. So if you try running them backwards and get a huge drop off in performance, chances are it's more critical than I thought.
