We are complete novices and this was my thrid attempt at having a trouble free test in our used comer cadet outfit so just to recap.
Firt attempt was on a car park(asbo on its way) and we managed to damage our engine(ingition magnets fell off locking up the engine damaging the piston)
Second attempt using our spare engine which came for free with the package was damaged. Had it rebuilt (needed big end and conrod) using a good second hand bottom end.
Taken to Hooton for a test but it would not start due to low compression. I had some how managed to damaged the piston but nothing had broken off inside. I must have sucked something in when I test started it with the airbox off. Some very kind people lent us a engine so the day wasnt completely waisted.
Third attempt.Engine stripped cleaned and rebuilt with a new piston. Tested on a dyno using my carb then taken to Hooton for a test.
Started and initially seemed ok but my lad looked and sounded slow down the staright. He said it would not rev and if he gave it full throttle it got slower not faster. Dave have a look and he tried adjusting the carb but with little or no improvement. My lad still enjoyed himself and managed to get 4 sessions under his belt but was only able to drive very slowley.
Someone managed to take his front bumper off so we had to fork out for a new one.
So not a great introduction to the world of two stroke karting. Is it just me or does this happen to other people. Am I a bit thick or are these two stroke engines and carbs difficult to get right. Were not even attempting to go fast yet. Just want to turn up, start it, drive it and go home without having to sell my house to pay for it.
Should I be looking for a honda powered outfit??
Cheers
Chris
