well just to offer a third opinion.

Last night I went with my lad and his Kart to get some setup advice from Terry at Spellframe (lovely bloke) His advice on Gearing was to run what everyone else was running so that the driver could get used to the correct gearing for the track. And that getting carried away on anything other than concentrating on learning the lines was secondary.
