Penniless Father - whilast you make some good points, there are reasons why these would be difficult to put into operation.

Problem - a lot of clubs (probably the majority) do not own the tracks and often have restrictions on the number of days they can operate. Training days and club activities could only be carried out at the normal race weekend when most drivers want as much track time as possible. If you attend the AGM of most of these clubs you will probably be about the only non-committee member to do so. Even when the club holds the AGM on a Saturday evening of a race weekend they still find that members do not turn up.

The problem is that a large number of the circuits are predominantly commercial enterprises rather than clubs being run for or by the members. In sailing, most clubs require that the safety and general duties are shared out amongst the members on a rota basis. This means that members get to see issues from both sides (ie running races / marshalling etc) and there is no doubt that this helps to give a good rounded perspective to the participants."

As mentioned above most clubs do not own the tracks. Some are commercial tracks that do corporate karting and hire the track to the club for one meeting a month. (They may allow arrive/drive karts to practice if they do not have a corporate booking). The people who run these clubs do it because they love karting rather than for reward. They may get travel expenses for race weekendsand the odd bacon roll/coffee but not much more. Same for the marshalls who stand out on track all day in all weathers jsut for basic expenses.
