A need for both classes? Yes
If we didn't have minimax then kids would be staying in cadet until they grew beards!
Is supercadet a viable option?
The classes weights are defined on safety grounds: The faster the kart the heavier the minimum weight- it's all about speed absorbtion into barriers-That's why Aixro is so heavy.
In my view the drivers are going into Juniormax too young/small and karts should not be more than twice the weight of the driver. Full CIK sized chassis are a different beast to the likes of zips.
Apologies to going off topic slightly.

Perhaps the reason why mini's are so quick in qualifying is to do with the outer layer of soft rubber on new tyres- the juniors being heavier will get more heat into the tyre during the normal tyre phase 10 laps + whilst having low pressures-where as the Mini's can't maximise the grip when the tyres start to wear.
