My brain was not fully engaged when I responded to you question!. Bearing in mind that your son can not race in cadets until he is 8 (next year?) then the honda option looks best. Although the grids for comer at 3S are bigger at the moment, this could change for next year depending on how many switch to the new iame cadet engine. Honda could become the biggest cadet class at 3S and many other clubs. I just had a quick look on the market palce and there is a Zip cadet chassis with a honda engine for £650 and a Birel cadet chassis for £450 (you need to add an engine). I do not know either advertiser so can not comment on how good the kit is but that is a guide to what is available. You will also need a trolley, some tools, sprockets etc (maybe an awning and trailer to carry the kart) but you should be able to get your lad out practicing for £1k. Then see which way things are going, how he has taken to the sport and go from there.
