Top revs 12K + seems to depend upon where you race. apart from gearing the other factor is your apex revs- If you manage to corner at 6000 RPM compared with 5500 Rpm then this will affect your top revs on the following straight. There is a big power drop off at 12K and above so drag(head wind) toe out and rear tyre diameters all affect top revs.It's easy to blame the engine when the problem is chassis setup- if you are fighting oversteer and having to correct then the revs will scrub off. We found that extra HP is only an advantage when every else is working
