A 2002 Venom Attack was not competitive against 2008 chassis on new rubber. It was not able to generate enough grip. Probably to 'soft' or flexible. At 3 sisters it was about 0.3 seconds a lap slower.
Prior to the change in tyres the chassis 'developement' from 1996 to 2002 was minisule. In three homologations despite claims of 0.25 to 0.3 seconds a lap quicker each time there was very little actual improovement in lap times.

However with the TKM motor now so even, technical set up of chassis tyres etc. is now SO important.
