" If you can afford to gain an advantage you will"

The best advantage one can gain is track time and track time is expensive.

The least amount of sense shown by any driver / team is trying to compete in a championship 'out of their league'. If one only has a clubman budget, then trying to compete in an 'unlimited' class is a waste of money unless one is extremely talented and lucky. Whinging that one is paying large sums to compete at S1 level and struggling to finish in the top 30, while ignoring the clubman championships is complete nonsense

There was a TV programme once about F2 powerboat racing and how a multi-millionaire was taking the title that year because he spent more on the transport bill getting to the various venues than his nearest rival had for his annual budget. It came across very strongly that his rivals acknowledged that he had won on points, but wasn't the winner on talent. For example he won one race because his rival broke a prop on a chunk of wood, the millionaire had an appropriate spare but would neither sell, hire nor lend it. This might be par for the course at S1, but at clubman races I have seen rivals rebuilding other drivers karts and engines while that driver is in the ambulance, just so they can compete in the next heat.

It is the danger with any sport, that talent loses out to the need for money. Meanwhile in F1, one needs to be wasting money even to watch it!
