I was cross about the digital ignition too.

There are two conflicting stories going on though.

The NKRA arrange a national championship for clubman drivers. They also arrange the Formula Blue National Championship which is allowed to award the class national numbers.

Beyond that championship they have little effect on the engine rules for Formula Blue, as it is a commercial class.

However it seems that the digital decision is to some extent being forced on Ron Shone by forces outside his control too.

Apparently IAME have stopped using the analogue ignition now, so one would only be able to use up the old ignitions and power boxes and they are getting rarer. Building a very small number of analogue ignitions from scratch is apparently more expensive than buying the new digital ignition.

There's also a problem that the description of the engine in the Gold book etc, has been 'box stock' and certain people have used that to complain that this or that driver has bits that are not "out of the box". So when IAME stopped supplying analogue ignitions, over a year ago, the 'box' contained only digital ignition and I have been told the MSA ruled that a changeover period was appropriate to maintain the 'box stock' description.

It seems that the ignitions are an OEM part, bought in by IAME, but used elsewhere too. When I sold my analogue ignition recently, it went to a person who wanted it for his motor bike because it uses the same ignition and their manufacturer have changed to a digital ignition too and the bike boys cannot get analogue spares either.

So while it is nice to blame Ron, (and I do, quite often) it isn't always quite so clear cut in reality.
