Comer carbs & clutches - pros & cons?

Hi everyone, in Zim we run the W60 comer engine with tillotson carb and spring clutch. Recently, there has been quite heated discussion on the pros & cons of changing the regs to give competitors the option of using the Tryton carb and the solid type clutch.
To help, can anyone assist with the following info:
1) Does the solid type clutch offer any competitive advantages or benefits over the spring type clutch – it does appear to have a lower stall speed and is +/- 200 grams heavier than the spring clutch. Was the new design introduced for simpler maintenance or better performance?
2) Does the tryton carb give a better performance than the tilly and why was the tilly phased out in the UK?
I appreciate that back to back testing would give definite answers but perhaps someone has first hand experience – it would be much appreciated.
