Chassis re-jig

Again, apols for what may appear to be a silly question, but as we are new to this, then we are allowed to ask...

Would someone please advise if when a chassis is jigged/rejigged, it can be done with the everything in place or do you need to strip everything off to the bare chassis.

Oh...And Bucky, if any answer you may have is as good as your last one, then please refrain, I can't stand any more larfing at the moment.
