What I found was that there is some disadvantage against a small driver in a heavy kart. I accept this is not always the case and sometimes choice of lead position can be an advantage, certainly last year we carried 4kg and had 3 positions for it on the kart as part of set up changes. Even at the end of the year when we didn't really need it there were a couple of times we put it back on to suit the conditions.
However, when you consider the more and more complicated designs of kart chassis. We think nothing now of changing to an identical looking, but 'faster'chassis. Why is it a surprise to think that a kart carefully designed to carry 70kg of dynamic weight in the seat will probably handle less well when damped with 20kg + of static weight bolted to it?
