When you turn the drum by hand with the chain removed, does the drum 'drag' or is it solid? If so:
Have you remembered to put the thin washer on the crank first?
Is the needle bearing knackered?
Failing either of these then the drum must be catching on the running face of the clutch for some reason - could be a broken clutch component or cracked drum.
