It is interesting that you have both concluded that the different types of motor will always be separate.
Is there not scope for an equivalence formula to allow 2 stroke and 4 stroke to race together? This has worked in MX and a long time ago worked in road racing. I well remember 2 stroke Yamahas racing against various 4 strokes at the TT in Formula 2. It can't be beyond the wit of mankind to come up with something similar in karting.
This would allow me (4 stroke) to race against a 2 stroke of broadly similar performance.
As Max14 mentions the 4 stroke now dominates the bike classes but this is largely for commercial reasons. These would not apply to karting in the same way but perhaps dominance would be acheived by the more successful engines.
Karting is traditionally 2 stroke but the high performance 4 strokes have a lot to offer.
