I have an 07 Alonso and had exactly the same problem. I replaced the pads and twisted the seal when I put the piston back in. The pads are not 10mm thick when new if they are the original OTK. I have been told by spellfame not to use grease. Just the dot 5 purple putoline brake fluid. They do need bleeding and bleeding and bleeding. Use a piece of clean fuel pipe to catch the expensive fluid back into the pot and you can see the bubbles easier in the tube. Once you have done both sides and done them again then lift the back of the kart from the rear bumper and remove the caps off the reservoirs and gently pull the brake pedal. You should get a couple or three bubbles from each side. Then it should be done. If the pads don't touch the disc then really pull on them hard until they close in. Then they should be ok.
The reason they got hot was the twist in the seal allowed air in to the system which then makes them stck out and rub against the disc thus heating up.

OTK brakes are great when they work but a right pain in the floor tray when they don't. They need a lot of maintenance.
