If you had to seal 3 engines before the season then prices would inflate to insane levels as teams frantically test hundreds of engines pre-season finding the best 'combo' for the season. it's an idea, that once scrutinised, isn't a sensible one.

Drivers may not be signed up in Cadets, but they certainly gain enough attention to make it worth winning. Just look at how much attention Lewis Hamilton's cadet days received during his 2007 season. Also, it has it's own British Championship. This in itself pushes up prices.

The point is this - don't try and pretend to bring in cost-cutting measures when in reality they rarely actually improve things. KF anyone?

There are practically ideas that are immune to inflation like one set of tyres per season and only having 2 day meetings. It won't make it more fair, but it certainly helps on the money side.

However to make the true cost-cutting measures you have to remove the prestige of cadet karting. Of course no one will want to see it happen, but while Cadet karting has a British Karting Championship to contend for the cost of competing is going to be sky high. Only sanction cadet karting at club level. That'll reduce costs!
