change the sprocket when you can visibly see that the teeth look worn, as in have they got sharper or look tired, with a chain, see if you can get a new one, hold them side by side and turn so the chain bends down, if the old one bends more then it is worn, i allow my chains to bend upto about 2cm before replacing, its hard to describe but when you do it this will make sense lol
