Your current plan is probably the cheapest way to get a gearbox engine onto your kart, and not without precedence 250 Nat class allows the CR250 and the now defunct Jnr Gearbox class allowed the CR80.

You will have less power than with a kart gearbox engine, as KZ's (With Restricted Tuning) produce 45ish HP and open engines probably 50+. But with less power comes better reliability and less cost and i am sure you will still have plenty of fun especially if you can get hold of soft tyres.
