At the weekend I had what looked like a petrol / oil mix coming out of the overlapping joints close to the end of the exhaust pipe. I clean the exhaust out with caustic soda then rinse it out very well. I never put any sealant in the joints.

Could it be that the caustic soda has broken down the grime inside and the mix is running along the sides of the exhaust then being pushed out of the joints by pressure.

Anyone else seen this? Also is there a better way to clean out these exhausts? Shhould I add a sealant?

Thanks a lot,

Danlee
