What is it you specificly want to avoid ?
Some of the "Mk1" motors were also not sand cast as Rotax changed to die casting before the "Mk2" was introduced.
Mk one motors were best identified by the smaller diameter exhaust and carb internals...but of course those parts can easily be changed.
Serial numbers are the only reliable way of confirming manufacturing date.
There are bigger issues to be aware of than Mk1 vs Mk2. significant changes have been made to internals ( con rods, bearings, balance shaft weights, gears, etc etc) as well as various generations of clutch, carb, radiator.
at the end of the day, most motors will have been rebuilt, and knowing what was updated during the rebuild is really what you need to know.
...Or buy a cheap one and have it rebuilt with updated parts. !
