You have also to remember what ackermann does.

It turns the outer wheel less than the inner wheel so that the outer wheel follows a circle (about a metre) wider than the inner wheel.

Therefore if you have no spacers the circle will be smaller than if you have 20 cm of spacers and so you will need to adjust the ackermann accordingly or you will be dragging one wheel and acting as a brake.

In theory, and depending on how your steering is set up, either the several holes on the steering column or the several holes on the drag link should correspond to no spacers, some spacers and maximum spacers.
