Indeed, I know the 5a boxes are sealed whereas the older ones weren't (at least, as far as I know).

They seem like a definate weak spot on these engines and I'm surprised there isnt' a known fix to a (presumably) common problem. The move to digital ignition should hopefully put a stop to these failures, (although from what I've been told, not completely successfully so far).
