Clean this out each time you take the kart out - it will keep it looking brand new and working perfectly - see the technical section of UK karting and it has a carb and power valve guide for you which is quite good.

I used to completely strip mine down so its all in bits.

Then I cleaned the metal blade with petrol and used either some very fine sand paper or one of those spongey pads with the brilo bit on them from asda for about 20p to remove any deposits (if you do it each meeting you wont get many)

I then cleaned the metal casing with petrol too, and blow throuth the hole.

Then I cleaned the plastic part, o-ring, rubber bellow and spring in warm water with fairy liquid (dont use any abrasive cleaner as it can affect the bellow)

Clean out the slot with some brake cleaner on a tissue (again if you've left it get in a real state you will struggle to get it clean and will have to wait till a rebuild as you wont want any bits dropping inside)

Then put it all back together, and I used melibdenum paste on the blade, rubbed in with a nice piece of leather, just cut up an old wallet or something.

Simple.
