I'm going through exactly the same process as you, I have also been a regular user of the hire karts at Warden Law and have decided to get my own kart for 2010.

I have a Sirio 100cc direct drive engine at the minute and have yet to get it to the track to test, I was thinking of getting a PRD fireball as I want electric start for when I inevitably spin out but I'm worried they won't be reliable - I believe the early models had problems, not sure if that is still the case or not?

What does everyone reckon, would I be better off sticking with the direct drive engine or looking at a cheap TAG engine - I can't really afford a Rotax Max just yet but I am worried about getting my current engine going.

Any advice greatly appreciated
