D Charity - Each spark plug has its electrode in a different position to the thread. You cannot add washers to the thread to affect this, neither can you remove the standard one, my suggestion, which is what i do, is test various spark plugs with the head off so you can see which one face the exhaust port. Don't be tempted to file down the standard washer, scrut's can be rather picky, adding a washer will lower your compression and increase your volume, removing the washer will do versa and could end up damaging your piston, again, trust me!...

Test different plugs and you'll be sure to find one that face perfectly.
