The DD engine with the PVL has 2 large permanent magnets. If you rotate the crankshaft manually with the barrel off it rotates fairly easily with only a slight 'drag' caused by the magnets generating low voltage current for the coil to convert to high voltage for the spark. The ignition system on the TAG, identical to the system as on the KF engines have 6 strong permanent magnets. These create a considerable 'drag' as it has to produce current for both the ignition system and re-charge the battery.
This appears to reduce the maximum revs compared to a DD on similar gearing. 1, possibly 2 teeth less may be required with the TAG. The reduction in head volume raising the compression ratio has its greatest effect of increasing bottom end torque & HP with a smaller increase in max HP. I think the extra mass of the clutch has little effect.
Has anyone actually won a final on a TAG yet? Would be ace in the wet.
