Got this from the ITV website....Any thoughts from anyone about a new breakaway series? Personally, I think he needs to sit down and think about this properly - But must be great to be able to afford considering wasting a load of money!
Former Renault team boss Flavio Briatore is considering taking legal action against the FIA over the lifetime ban imposed on him for race-fixing, according to reports in the Italian media.
At Monday’s World Motor Sport Council hearing the governing body banned Briatore from all FIA-sanctioned events and said it would not grant a licence to any team Briatore was involved with or renew the F1 Superlicence of any driver associated with him.
It thus put an end to his role as a driver manager and his involvement in the GP2 series as well, apparently sealing his exile from international motorsport.
It is possible he will also be stripped of his chairmanship of Queens Park Rangers football club, which he co-owns with Bernie Ecclestone and steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, under the Football League's 'fit and proper persons' test which states that no one who is banned by a sport's governing body can be a director of a club.
The Football League has written to the FIA asking for details of the case before confirming its position.
La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Briatore is “distraught” at his treatment by the FIA and is planning to sue the governing body in the Paris courts to try to prove his innocence and win compensation for the damage to his image.
There were also reports that the 59-year-old Italian is considering setting up his own racing series to rival Formula 1.
Briatore was one of the prime movers in the Formula One Teams’ Association, which earlier this year threatened to launch a breakaway championship in a row of the FIA’s budget cap proposal before stepping back from the brink when the plans were watered down.
