I think most people are agreed that the Unilogger is the best solution, but its cost prohibitive for clubs and individuals. At Super 1 it appears to have produced a level field.

There is lots of suspicions that people are having the clutches modified in ways which are almost impossible to detect without lab testing.

Whilst putting a kart on the stand and revving its guts out then revving to 3000RPM on the ground will show up the greased clutch, it wont show up a treated clutch and that is the biggest problem.

Having scrutineers check for grease inside the clutch before the start of the heat/race is not going to stop someone who has a modified clutch from getting an illegal advantage. But allowing everyone else to grease their clutch bearing as much as they want appears to reduce that advantage.

It would be nice if Rotax / MSA could find a satisfactory solution real soon, but until then, lets try and make it a level playing field for everyone as much as possible.

Of course there is always the bright side, a 5 quid tin of grease versus expensive treated clutches and hours of testing to find the best advantage. Would make me smile if I was competitive for a fiver against someone who had spent a lot more.
