Betamax was a superior technology to VHS yet it was VHS that succeeded. It pervaded because it gave punters what they wanted.

Rotax killed off the 100cc classes, has almost finished off TKM, and appears to have gotten the upper hand over the KF classes before they had a chance to get going. The Rotax formulae give people what they want and that's why the vast majority of karters have gravitated there.

Rotax have taught the karting industry what's turned out to be an incredibly expensive lesson for that industry - understand your customers and what they want... and give it to them or die.
