Have you got a picture of your chassis where the engine mounts? Is the engine stop bolt wound fully back, as there's a bolt that sits behind the engine clamp, to aid with tensioning. Make sure that's fully wound back.

Does your chain gaurd look like this? - http://www.kartstore.co.uk/detail.cfm?item_id=2509&cat_id=1502&sub_id=undefined

As we had a problem like this, so my and my dad cut a notch out the front so that the chain guard covered the chain and half of the front sprocket. These chain gaurd generally seem to be a bu**er to fit, as there cheap lol
