..as BP pointed out, by altering the base gasket thickness you not only change the squish but also the port timing ..and there are spec's to define the port timing also.
There is no guarantee that setting the "optimum" squish will result in the best port timing.
You can only optimise both by machining components (IE true "Blueprinting") ...and that is taboo in Rotax
