This idea of a RPM limiter on a Rotax Max is a bit of a misconception. They do not have a limiter such as found on a KF2 engine, which you can plainly hear when the motor "tops out" and will not rev any higher. Some say the Rotax Max is limited to 14,200 RPMs, but it is not unusual for my Rotax Max to rev up to 14,350 RPMs. It may be due to the RPM counter I use [Unipro 6300]. I have been told [by very well informed motorheads, by my reckoning] that the Rotax Max has no ELECTRONIC limiter, and the "limit" is actually dependant upon the effect and torque, ie. when the load exceeds the effect/torque, the motor cannot continue accelerating. This is what most refer to when speaking of RPM limiter. At any rate, I have never heard a Rotax Max sound like a KF2 motor when it hits the limit. Rick Shreiner
