If you want to be pedantic the disk protector does not need to be on the chassis rail closest to the disk. The rule only states that the protector has to be lateral to the disk or under the disk.

A nylon type sprocket protector therefore meets the requirement for a brake disk protector as it is currently written

I have already queried this with the scrutineers and they do not have an answer as yet although I understand there was a meeting at which this was to be brought up.
