MSA regulations permit the use of either but only with certain internal jet combinations. Thus you may use:

3.6g floats with 60/60 idle jet & idle jet emulsion tube

5.2g floats with 30/30 idle jet & idle jet emulsion tube

The jet identity is stamped in small characters on the jet body (I now have to use a magnifying glass to be sure!).

You may not mix floats (eg 1 of each) and failure to use one of the above combinations could result in exclusion from the meeting results.

The difference? Best way is to test the combinations and feel the difference for yourself - it's quite a quick change.
