Your best bet is to have a chat with an engine builder - have you decided who will do your engine work?
The parts will vary within manufacturing tolerances with some being just a fraction out from the perfect spec and others being well out. The barrel may have a rough spot which the engine builder can `hone' true. the ports on some may be closer to ideal than others.
As the barrel wears you can fit a larger sized piston. It all takes time to check the parts and get the best match.
Where do you race? If you want your lad to experience big grids then Shenington and Whilton are well worth a visit. There will usually be several drivers from the stars and S1 series at those meetings to test him against.
