Maintenance costs, yes....but a good kart can last 5 years or more and still be competitive if maintained correctly, and will still have a residual value.
I carefully sourced used kart, can be purchaced, raced and resold again at minimal loss if you know what you are doing.
DIY maintenance , motor building and tuning skills save a lot of money.
