I'm bringing 3 new drivers to an IKR practise with two of my karts (TKM) in the New Year. My thinking is they can have a go of them to give them a taste of what it's like and if they like it then they might take up the sport and if they don't want to drive they at least know what it's all about. They will likely tell their friends about it, one of their friends might take up the sport.
If everybody did this then we would have full grids in all classes within no time.
I think of it like the butterfly effect, a butterfly flaps its wings and the knock on effect causes a tornado somewhere on the planet.
I also remember that I knew nothing about karting, I didn't even know what a kart was. It was a friend who introduced me to karting, if it wasn't for that chance encounter I might never have started kart racing.
As racers, all of us drivers owe it to the sport to get more new drivers. You don't need a hard sell, just put them in a kart, tell them what it's about, if they want to start racing then they will, no hard sell needed.
It might even be good to organise a day where we have a group of racers go down on a practise day to help out and give advice.
Chris.
