We used to race Comer and have loads of stuff left over, including engines, black box ignition unit, everything.

From the sound of your problem, most common is the ignition cable. Either replace the whole thing or check the connection to the plug cap, these can sometimes work loose. try unscrewing, you may have to shorted the cable to get a better end and re-screw onto the plug cap.
