We did exactly the same thing, opting for minimax.
I looked at X30 but was advised by a well known engine builder to budget approx £100 per hour with an X30. Ive since spoken to others who have laughed at that an said its more like £200 to £300 which is way beyond what I'm prepared to spend!
I wonder if this is a reason why TKM has made a bit of a comeback at superone?
The trouble with any engine class, the moment the "big" Teams get involved the costs will spiral as they are under pressure to get results and keep a full awning. Its no point pretending that all X30 engines will remain equal as the teams will be continually testing and testing different engines until they have the best ones.
I know Rotax has its faults and it will have never pleased everyone but its the closest thing plug and play racing. Rebuilds once a season and fantastic reliability and I dont have to shove it down the dummy grid to start it. This suits us and our budget.
