Given the gear reduction between starter, bendix and ring gear, the starter doesn't need to be very powerful, just high rpm.

You'd be hard pushed to draw 300 amps from a kart battery and the starter certainly couldn't pull 300 amps, even if short circuit, as the brush braids will fry.

The output of the stator is quite low and charging current is limited anyway.
