The profiles are different.

The k27 is thinner on its lower part and will run richer up to 3/4 throttle.

The k98 is much fatter on its lower part and will run leaner, especially in the first part of the throttle opening after 1/4 throttle.

The main jet doesn't really play much part in the 1/4 to 3/4 throttle opening, the needle controls the fuel delivery, so you could remove the main jet and the carb would perform normally up until the 3/4 to full throttle point when the open tube would pass too much fuel.

By raising or lowering the needle position with the circlip, you will alter the fuel/air mixture at particular throttle openings.
