Since the market introduction of the 125 MAX engine, customers have been complaining about misfiring of the ROTAX MAX engines. Critical engine set up / engine conditions (lean jetting of the carburetor, low squish gap, big spark plug gap, bad condition of the isolating mat in the after muffler of the exhaust system) resulted in misfiring of the engine in the rpm range from 10.000 – 12.000 rpm. To make the engines less sensitive on critical engine set up / engine conditions and therefore to reduce the negative effect of misfiring of the engine in the rpm range from 10.000 – 12.000 rpm, BRP-Powertrain has introduced new ignition coils with increased ignition voltage. Please note that the ignition timing has not been changed and therefore the engine with the new ignition coil with higher ignition voltage is still providing the same performance. The higher ignition voltage will be standardized for all ROTAX MAX engines, therefore also a new ignition coil for the 125 MAX DD2 engine has been defined. Feedback from the market BRP-Powertrain has received different fe edbacks from the market which have been commented as follows. Customers who have already been able to find the optimum engine set up have stated that they have not found any improvement with the new ignition coil. Customers who had problems in the past to find the optimum engine set up because of critical engine set up / engine conditions have stated that, they could easier find the optimum engine set up and have therefore improved their lap times. Summary The new ignition coil with increased ignition voltage will support the user friendliness of ROTAX MAX engines but will not improve the performance of the engine .
